the year was tired. i rolled it up like an old rug and put it away. what have we lost, what have we gained, i asked. will we take stock and look around? inventory’s too painful, and now it’s spring, and if i blink, summer will come, drive the cold from the trees, and take one for the road, maybe me. then where will i be? nothing to say, nowhere to go, nothing to lighten my load, far, far away from home.
